Neitzel, Jean (Marriage - 14 June 1947)
On Saturday evening, June 14, in a candle light ceremony at the Presbyterian church, Miss Jean Neitzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Neitzel, became the bride of Calvin Strombeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Strombeck. The Rev. G. E. Griffiths read the marriage service at 7:30 in a setting of two large white candelabra and white baskets of mixed flowers. A large number of relatives and friends of the bridal couple were in attendance.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white embroidered organdy designed with a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves and a long train. She wore a strand of pearls and pearl ear rings. Her lace edged veil was finger tip length. Tea roses combined with lily of the valley and swan Sonia were tied with large, satin bow with loops and streamers to make the bridal bouquet.
Miss Nelda Gauerke, aunt of the groom, of Athens, as maid of honor, and Miss Iris Johnson, cousin of the bride, as bridesmaid, wore similarly designed frocks of ninon with sweetheart necklines, puffed sleeves and full skirts. Miss Gauerke, in light blue, and Miss Johnson, in pale pink, wore matching head dresses of net and flowers and carried nosegay bouquets of pink carnations, white sweet peas and swan Sonia with maline to match their frocks.
Attending the groom were Clarence Carpenter, a friend, as best man, and Melvin Strombeck, a brother. The ushers were Glenn Schaus, Horicon, and Melvin Strombeck.
The bride’s mother wore an aqua crepe dress with white accessories and the groom’s mother wore a printed white silk jersey with black accessories. Both wore shoulder corsages of tea roses and swansonia.
During the ceremony Miss Ramona Johnson, cousin of the bride, sang "Because," and "O Perfect Love." Mrs. Leland Smiley was accompanist.
A reception for about 60 guests was held at the home of the bride’s parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Strombeck left on a week’s trip to Chicago and Northern Wisconsin after which they will make their home in Abbotsford where the groom is employed at Danielson Dry Cleaners. Both the bride and groom are graduates of the Abbotsford high school. The groom served in the navy for three and one-half years.
